Line System

The house or line system is a traditional feature of British schools both in the UK and abroad. The school is divided into subunits called 'lines' and each pupil is allocated to one line when starting the school. Lines work together with a shared common goal establishing teamwork and a sense of belonging, thus providing a focus for group loyalty.

A secondary feature of line systems is the competition between lines. For example, the traditional school sports day is usually an inter-lines competition. Other competitions and charity drives are also often organised along inter-house lines. Merit points for behaviour and academic achievement may also be totalled up for comparison between lines at the end of each term.

At AGS pupils will belong to one of the following lines throughout their time at the school –

  • Campion
  • Weld
  • Raeburn
  • Elton
